Ex-Tropical Cyclone Trevor will produce heavy rain and flooding in parts of western and central Queensland during the next three days.

A low pressure system that was formerly Tropical Cyclone Trevor is moving through western Queensland today.

At 5am on Tuesday, the low was located over the state's North West district, roughly 180km to the southwest of Mount Isa.

While the system is no longer a tropical cyclone, it's still being fed by copious tropical moisture, leading to sustained and heavy rain.

Urandangie received 133mm of rain during the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday, which is its highest daily total in three years. Nearby, Roxborough Downs registered 165mm during the same period.

The system is likely to track towards the east during the next 48 hours, spreading it's heavy rain over Queensland's western and southern interior.

A flood watch was in place for the Gulf Country, Channel Country, Central West and Warrego and Maranoa catchments on Tuesday morning.

In addition to the rain, thunderstorms are likely to develop on Tuesday near the low and an associate trough extending to its southeast. These storms are likely to cause localised bursts of heavy rain and may also produce damaging to destructive wind gusts.

Rain and thunderstorms will increase over eastern districts of Queensland during the second half of the week as the low and trough move closer to the Coral Sea.

While Ex-Tropical Cyclone Trevor will be too far south to impact NSW directly, its moisture will interact with a trough and strong front to trigger widespread showers and storms across the state on Friday.
