Flinders Highway reopens in north-west Qld

By David Lewis, Wednesday February 8, 2012 - 10:36 EDT

The Flinders Highway between Richmond and Julia Creek in north-west Queensland has fully reopened after being cut-off by floodwaters.

Carol Pattinson from the Julia Creek roadhouse says a number of truck drivers and tourists were stranded for days.

"One fella, he had medication for cancer patients, would you believe it?" she said.

"By the third or fourth day he said he had to get the medication through to these patients.

"They let the trucks and the four-wheel-drives through for one day, so he was pretty happy about that - he could get that medication through to them."
