Eastern Australia feels the chill

Eastern Australia feels the chill
It was a freezing night across parts of eastern Australia, especially in northern New South Wales and southern Queensland, where some places saw their coldest August morning in over a decade. Many areas in the region recorded temperatures which were well below average for this time of year, up to 8 degrees below the August average. A high pressure system sitting over central Australia causing light winds and clear skies combined with a cold airmass to bring about widespread cold temperatures. In NSW, Dorrigo recorded a crisp minimum of -2.8 degrees which was their coldest August night in 16 years. Broken Hill recorded a minimum of 0.3 degrees which is their coldest August night in 19 years. There were many places in the Mid North Coast, Northern Rivers, Northern Tablelands and Northwest Slopes and Plains that had their coldest August night in 5 years, including Gunnedah which recorded a low of -4.9 degrees and Tamworth -5.2 degrees. Lismore which got down to a low of -1.1 degrees recorded their coldest night for any month in 5 years. For QLD, Oakey Airport, just west of Toowoomba had its coldest August morning since 1995, recording a very cold low of -5.6 degrees. Roma and St George also had their coldest August nights in 16 years, while Miles and Warwick had their coldest August nights in 5 years. Even some places along the coast got very cold, with the Gold Coast reaching a low of 5.6 degrees, their coldest night in 5 years. Further south, parts of Tasmania also felt the brunt of the cold. Hobart had its coldest August night in 51 years and equal coldest night in 18 years dropping to a low of -0.4. Burnie in the north of the state recorded a low of 1.3 degrees, which was its coldest temperature in 8 years and its coldest August night in 18 years. The chilly conditions are expected to last for a couple of more days before temperatures warm up towards more springlike conditions from the weekend.
