Parts of Tasmania registered their lowest March temperature in more than a decade this morning.

Clear skies and light winds combined with a cold air mass to produce the wintry morning on the island state.

Cressy's -2 degrees early this morning was its lowest March temperature in 14 years.

Wynyard (0.4C), Sheffield (1.9C), Friendly Beach (5.9C) and Smithton (1.2C) all had their coldest March morning since 2011.

Hobart's low of 6.0 degrees was the capital city's coolest morning so far this year.

Liawenee registered the state's lowest temperature overnight, dipping to -4.2 degrees shortly before 6am. This was their lowest temperature this early in autumn for eight years.

Tasmania's lowest temperature on record during March was -6.9 degrees, which occurred at Liawenee in 2005.
