Downpour cuts outback roads

Chrissy Arthur, Tuesday February 9, 2010 - 08:50 EDT

Roads are cut in parts of south-west Queensland and rivers are rising after more big rain.

Quilpie Mayor David Edwards says he recorded almost 70 millimetres yesterday and there are reports of falls of more than 100mm around Cooladdi, west of Charleville.

He says it is the best outlook for the region for 30 years.

"I feel that this is probably the best early summer - and by early summer I mean November, December, January and now into February - since 1976 by a long way," he said.

"The main connection east to Charleville is cut at Cooladdi - the Paroo - and also at Beechil Creek."
