Continued heat for WA

Continued heat for WA
It has been a season of prolonged extremes for our western capital. In the early stages of summer, Perth endured 61 consecutive days without recording a single drop in the rain gauge. This dry spell was finally broken when the heavens opened on the 30th of January and delivered almost a whole months-worth of rain in a single day. Since then however, warmth has been the most notable feature for the city on the Swan River. Since the 25th of January (inclusive), the mercury had exceeded 30 degrees every day. Yesterday was the first day that 30 degrees wasn't reached, although 29.6 degrees isn't far off! This warmth is not showing signs of relenting any time soon. Forecast temperatures in the coming seven days are set to average 34.8 degrees (including today's maximum). The most marginal day is looking to be Monday 9th where winds will tend south/southwesterly from the word go. At this stage, the airmass looks just hot enough for the temperature to tip 31 degrees however. The airmass further north of Perth will be significantly warmer however coastal locations such as Geraldton are likely to experience persistent south/southwesterly winds. The airmass has the potential to bring temperatures in excess of 40 degrees for a number of days at Geraldton if the winds were favourable, however this dominant southerly flow will 'moderate' temperature to the mid-high thirties. Gradual and subtle cooling should ensue by the end of the working week, however temperatures are looking to remain above average in the week following.
