Coldest March night in years for VIC and NSW

Coldest March night in years for VIC and NSW
Most of New South Wales and Victoria endured an unseasonably cool morning, with some parts seeing their coldest March night in up to eleven years. A cold air mass in the wake of a front combined with mostly clear skies and easing winds to cause a chilly morning, with many places 5 to 8 degrees below average. The coldest locations were in northern VIC and southern NSW where skies were clearest and winds were lightest. Rutherglen and Yarrawonga in VIC saw their coldest March mornings in eight years, recording 1.3 degrees and 5.2 degrees respectively. In NSW Nowra saw its coldest March morning in at least 11 years reaching 7.2 degrees. Braidwood saw its coldest in five years, reaching 1.2 degrees. For many parts, this was also the coldest night since November. In NSW's northwest, towns such as Brewarrina and Walgett even saw their coldest mornings since October. While the air mass is set to warm up over coming days with the mercury likely to reach back into the 30's by Wednesday, the chilly morning was a cool reminder that winter is not too far away.
