Cold nights hit Victoria early

Cold nights hit Victoria early
Some may wondering if winter has already arrived across much of Victoria with most places not even managing double figures last night. Tatura in the Northern Country dropped to chilly 1.5 degrees, their coldest night this early in the year in 14 years. Melbourne fell to 7.3 degrees, the last time it was colder this early in the year was 1996. Sale recorded 1.1 degrees their coldest night this early in 46 years. The lowest recorded temperature last night in Victoria was minus 3 at Mt Hotham, nearly seven below average. The cause of this unseasonal weather has been some cold, dry air that filtered in behind a front that passed through yesterday. Lighter winds and clearing skies will have also helped temperatures plummet, whilst allowing some frost to develop in places too. It is likely that for a least the next few nights temperature will remain below average as a high pressure moves across the south. Into the weekend and there is a possibility of fog patches developing in many places as the high establishes itself. Into next week and some warmer northeasterlies will set up just before a change around mid week.
