Cold mornings to stick around in SA

Tristan Meyers
Teeth chattered through a bracing spring morning in South Australia today - with more chilly starts on the way. In fact, a few locations recorded their coldest September mornings in decades. At just 1 degree, Meningie had their coldest September morning since 1970 at a whopping seven degrees under the average. Keith also had their coldest September minimum since 1995, with temperatures dipping past the duck egg to -1 degrees. This works out to be eight degrees below their average. Closer to the big smoke, Mount Lofty had their coldest September minimum in 13 years. Adelaide itself recorded six degrees, around four degrees under the average. The low temperatures brought frost across these areas. This is not common for September - usually locations around Clare are more prone to frost conditions. On Tuesday, a cold front dragged a wintery airmass across the southeast of Australia. A high pressure system soon followed this front, the cold air ended up lingering across SA. Since high pressure systems bring light winds and cloudless weather, cold nights and mornings were then on the cards. The cold isn't quite over as yet. The next few mornings will remain chilly in SA. However, by the weekend, we will see milder mornings as the airmass warms.
