Perisher, Cooma and Cabramurra had their coldest August morning in years. This morning Cooma and Cabramurra had their coldest morning of the year and their coldest August morning in three years. The mercury plummetted to minus nine degrees at Cooma Airport and minus five in Cabramurra. Those who hit the slopes early at Perisher felt the considerable chill with their third coldest morning of the year, dipping to minus ten degrees. These very cold temperatures were due to clear skies and light winds that combined with a lingering cold airmass. The very cold night and light winds allowed the resorts to have the guns going all night to produce extra snow. Conditions on the slopes will be brilliant today with the highest snow depths in at least eight years. Today will be a mostly sunny day, making for a great start to the week for skiing and boarding. However on Tuesday and Wednesday the sunny skies will warm the slopes a little too much with some snow melt occurring. The next best time to hit the slopes will be after the next front which arrives on Thursday with rain tending to snow late in the day.
