Bitterly cold temperatures grip NSW
Eastern parts of New South Wales shivered under its coldest morning in eight years. On the Central Coast, Norah Head dropped to 4.6 degrees, its coldest morning since July 2007. Nobbys Head on the Newcastle foreshore recorded its coldest morning in seven years, plummeting to 5.6 degrees, which is nearly four degrees colder than the August average. Parts of Sydney also shivered this morning. It was the coldest morning in five years for the city, Terrey Hills, Horsley Park and Penrith. In the Mid North Coast, minimum temperatures were five-to-eight degrees below average, with Dorrigo, Kempsey and Port Macquarie all recording below freezing. Sub-zero temperatures were felt throughout the Snowy Mountains, with Thredbo Top Station seeing its coldest morning in a fortnight, dropping to -8.5 degrees. This morning's super chilly conditions were due to a cold airmass from a cold front which passed over Tasmania and Victoria over the weekend. With light winds and clear skies, the ingredients were perfect for the temperature to plummet. For eastern NSW, the chilly mornings will stick around for the next few days, but since winds will be a touch stronger, temperatures are not likely to be as bitterly cold as this morning.
