Australia's Christmas extremes

Australia's Christmas extremes
Forecasts still suggest Christmas Day in Australia will be typically hot, humid and thundery in the north, windy in the south, wet in the southeast and dry and warm on the west coast. With only two days to go, our computer models are still telling us that a front will cross southern Australia, bringing a cooler, gusty change while a low pressure trough causes showers and storms in the southeast and north of the country. Potential extremes are - Hottest - 30-degree minimum at Broome in Western Australia's north and Windorah in Queensland's west and 42-degree maximum at Julia Creek and Winton in Queensland's west Coldest - 3-degree minimum and 11-degree maximum at Mt Read in Tasmania's west Wettest - 60mm in the Moree area in New South Wales' north and the Jabiru area in the Northern Territory's north Cloudiest - 2 hours of sunshine at Birdsville in Queensland's far west and Tennant Creek in the NT's interior Sunniest - 14 hours of sunshine in Perth in WA's southwest Windiest - 80km/h at Neptune Island in South Australia's south Calmest - 20km/h at Tenterfield in New South Wales' north As we get closer to the day, models will change and accuracy will improve, giving us different places and amounts, so stay tuned for updates.
