Alice dry spell breaks record

It has not rained in Alice Springs for 148 days, breaking a long-standing weather record.
David Matthews from the weather bureau says it is the longest dry spell recorded at the Alice Springs Airport weather station and it might not be over yet.
"All it's really going to take is a strong trough moving through the bight and producing some precipitation as it moves through central Australia," he said.
"We're seeing troughs start to move through the Alice Springs district now, so I guess it's just a matter of time when one of these troughs will actually produce some rainfall and stop the record.
"Short-term looks not promising at all for any rain.
"At least the next week or so there's no indication of any rain and beyond that it's little harder to determine."
