AFL and NRL grand final forecast

AFL and NRL grand final forecast
What will the weather be like when Melbourne and Sydney go head-to-head in the AFL and NRL grand finals this weekend? Australia's two most populated cities will field teams in each match and both play host to a game. The opening bounce of the AFL final will be at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, 2:30pm local time on Saturday. The NRL match kicks off at ANZ Stadium in Sydney at 7:15pm on Sunday. Showers are expected in Melbourne on Saturday morning as a trough sweeps across central Victoria. Despite the potentially soggy start, showers will become less likely as the day progresses, with little if any rainfall left by the early afternoon. The AFL grand final will most likely be a dry affair. Any showers during the game would be very light and brief. Fresh winds in the morning will also calm down in time for the game. In a nutshell, the weather is looking good for the match. Meteorologists and sport fans alike love statistics, so can past results shed light on tomorrow's final? Of the last two times Sydney and Melbourne teams clashed in an AFL grand final, Sydney won when showers occurred on game day and the Melbourne side triumphed when it stayed dry. While this sample size is too small to be statistically significant, could it be an omen? Only time will tell. On Sunday, Sydney will enjoy its warmest day since May, reaching a top of around 27 degrees in the city during the day's pre-game celebrations. It will still be in the low-to-mid twenties at kickoff and will remain dry throughout the match. With such nice conditions on the cards all day, it's unlikely weather will influence the result. However, the Cronulla Sharks may be more accustomed to the warmth.
