Northerly winds sweeping across South Australia today are carrying abundant heat to South Australia's coast, ensuring a sweltering end to the first week of school holidays. People across Adelaide sweltered in the heat yesterday as the mercury made it to 41 degrees. Today has been even hotter, exceeding 43 degrees after 2pm. This has made it the hottest pair of December days since the heat spell of 1931. Sleeping will be a challenge tonight, with families fighting over the fan and households cranking the air conditioner. It will be harder to bare than last night with more heat getting into homes after the second day over 40 degrees. Relief for the capital will arrive on Friday after a southerly change moves through in the middle of the day. Initially it will remain noticeably warm behind the change into the late afternoon, however a cooler air mass will arrive during the evening. Yet it will still be a struggle to sleep in hot houses. Thankfully for parents and children alike, the weekend will be far more bearable with maximum temperatures more than 15 degrees cooler than Thursday.
