Adelaide achieves hottest New Years Day in 112 years

Adelaide achieves hottest New Years Day in 112 years
At 12:58pm today, Adelaide hit 41 degrees, making it their hottest New Years Day in 112 years. This makes it hotter than New Years Day in 2008, when it reached 39.9, but is short of the record of 43.1, set in 1900. Adelaide's 41 degrees is 13 above the average for this time of year, but short of the January record of 46.1 degrees set in 1939 on the 12th day of the month. The nearby areas north and east of Adelaide have also gone past 40 degrees today. Roseworthy, Pallama, Keith and Port Augusta all exceeded 42 degrees. Much further north and west in SA it has been even hotter. By 1:30pm, Ceduna had become the state's hottest, reaching 45.6 degrees, 17 above the January average and their hottest New Years Day in at least 70 years. Ceduna's January record still stands at 47.9 degrees, in 1990 on the second day of the month.
