The chance of a thunderstorm on and W of the ranges late this afternoon and evening. Light winds becoming W/NW 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day then tending NW/NE 20 to 30 km/h in the early afternoon. Daytime maximum temperatures between 16 and 22.

  • Thursday Partly cloudy. Medium chance of showers in the W, slight chance elsewhere. Winds N/NW 25 to 35 km/h turning W 25 to 40 km/h early in the morning. Overnight temperatures falling to between 5 and 11 with daytime temperatures reaching between 11 and 20.

  • Friday Partly cloudy. Patches of morning frost. Medium chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon or evening, possibly falling as snow above 1300 metres. Winds W 20 to 30 km/h increasing to 25 to 35 km/h during the morning. Overnight temperatures falling to between 1 and 6 with daytime temperatures reaching between 9 and 17.

  • Saturday Partly cloudy. Patches of morning frost. Medium chance of showers in the S. Winds W 25 to 35 km/h turning SW 20 to 30 km/h during the morning. Overnight temperatures falling to between 1 and 7 with daytime temperatures reaching between 9 and 17.

Residents in three communities in Melbourne's outer east are being warned not to drink their tap water because of storm damage.

Parts of eastern Queensland have woken to a thick blanket of fog this morning, with the possibility of severe storms later in the day.  The weather phenomenon engulfed the south-east, stretching west to Gatton and as far north as Cairns.
