Rainbow Beach gets a drenching
Douglas Fenton

Rainbow Beach has received the country's heaviest rain over the past 24 hours.
Exposed parts of the Queensland Southeast Coast and Wide Bay and Burnett districts have just been drenched. The daily rainfall totalled 53mm at Rainbow Beach, the heaviest in 3 years for May. Double Island Point gained as much as 5mm in just 10 minutes, with a daily total of 43mm to 9am on Thursday.
The rain has been triggered by south to southeast winds, which have brought moisture in from the Tasman Sea and also by a trough of low pressure, which has added instability to the mix.
The outlook is for showers to continue along exposed parts of the coast, although tending infrequent about the Southeast Coast on Friday as a high pressure system moves in from the west. The heaviest showers are likely to fall over the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands during the coming few days, due to a coastal region of low pressure combined with humid onshore winds.
