Queensland shivers through coldest morning of the year
By Brittney Kleyn, Monday July 15, 2019 - 13:20 EST
Queenslanders have shivered through the coldest morning of the year across parts of the state, with the mercury dropping as low as -4.8 degrees Celsius at Dalby just before 6.30am.
Early on Monday morning, the temperature dropped to -3.2C at Amberley and Kingaroy and -2C at Biloela.
The Bureau of Meteorology's Kimba Wong said while no records were broken, much of the south-east coast endured the coldest morning of 2019.
"Pretty cold dry air mass that's making it's way through the state following a pretty strong cold front that past through southern states over the last couple of days," Ms Wong said.
Both the Sunshine and Gold coasts saw very low temperatures; the Sunshine Coast Airport recorded 2.6C and Coolangatta recorded 0.9C.
It fell to 4.1C at the Mackay airport and 3.5C in Hervey Bay.
Ms Wong warned the cool mornings were expected to continue throughout the week.
"Certainly for the next few days into the end of the week ... with pretty wide areas of frost possible as well so a little bit of moisture starting to return to costal parts," she said.
While residents can expect to wake to frost, no snow is forecast.
"It's looking like a really dry air mass that's going to be sitting over Queensland for the rest of the week, so we're not really expecting any precipitation or snow fall at all," she said.
The day-time temperatures are also expected to stay below average, but a fine and sunny day is forecast for much of South-East Queensland.
Top temperatures would be in the low 20s on Monday and Tuesday, then become warmer through the latter part of the week.
