Queensland on alert for wild weather

The weather bureau has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of central and southern Queensland.

At 5.00pm (AEST) a severe thunderstorm warning was in place for people on the Darling Downs, Granite Belt and parts of the Northern Goldfields, Upper Flinders, Herbert, Lower Burdekin, Central Highlands and Coalfields, the Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego districts.

The storms are likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones over the next several hours.
