Alpine 14 Day Weather Commentary

We are less than one week away from the opening weekend of the 2015 season and conditions look good for some pre-season snow.

In the late stages of this weekend and early next week, a large pool of cold air will move over the southeast following a cold front. Monday is looking to be the coolest day with the airmass cold enough for snow showers falling as low as 1000 metres. We should receive around 10-20cm over the next 4-5 days and with cold air lingering, melting should be negligible.

As the gates open on the long weekend, a high pressure ridge will be sitting overhead leading to clear skies and light winds. Just after the start of the season, there are indications of a cold front delivering a dusting to Victorian alpine regions around Sunday 7th/Monday 8th, but there is still uncertainty regarding this scenario.
