Thick cloud over eastern VIC due to a nearby low is causing showers and thunderstorms, some heavy. Only the odd patchy of showery cloud is reaching central parts of the state. Skies are mostly clear over the northern plains and the west where winds are drier and more stable.

Cyclone Trevor strengthens to category three as it nears Far North Queensland coast
