Year's coldest in Queensland

Jessica Trevena
Thick cloud and rain kept temperatures in the low teens across much of Queensland today, making it the coldest day since Winter 2007. Capital city Brisbane reached just 15 degrees, the lowest since last June. Further west in the Darling Downs, Toowoomba reached only 10 degrees, and Roma 13; both also the coldest in a year. Even way north in Charleville, the mercury only climbed to 11, 8 degrees below average. The unseasonable thick cloud over the state is forming as moist onshore winds feed into a trough near the coast, producing heavy rain as well as cool temperatures. The normally dry Goldfield towns of Forsayth and Einasleigh recorded their highest July rain in over 50 years of records, with 83 mm and 54 mm respectively. The trough and related cloud are currently tracking south, and rain will increase over southeast Queensland overnight, before clearing during Friday.
