Wind and rain surge along the NSW coast

Wind and rain surge along the NSW coast
A complex low pressure system is moving north along the New South Wales coast, bringing damaging winds and heavy rain. The Illawarra and South Coast have already seen their peak in wind and rain, with totals as high as 61mm at Pt Perpendicular and winds gusting up to 90km/h. In the 24 hours to 9am this morning, much of the South Coast recorded their wettest May day in five years, including Moruya Airport (32mm), Batemans Bay (36mm) and Narooma (42mm). Sydney experienced its heaviest and most widespread rain during the mid morning, with as much as 25mm by 10:30am. The Hunter will see some of the heaviest rain from this system. By the end of the day they should see as much as 60mm along the coast and 20mm in parts of the upper Hunter. Wind will be peaking along the Sydney coast in the hour and half either side of midday and in the Hunter in the afternoon. These winds are likely to produce damaging wind gusts, most likely about coastal areas. The exposed weather station at Wattamolla, just south of Sydney, clocked 115km/h at 10:23am, indicating the power of the winds associated with this low pressure system. Rain has already eased to showers for the South Coast and Illawarra, with Sydney to follow suit around midday and the Hunter around dinner time. Wind will only slowly ease this evening, before a much calmer and drier weekend.
