Wild weather blacks out Perth homes as winds hit

A cold front which has passed over the southern half of Western Australia has dumped much-needed rain on Perth and the south west of the state.

Wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres an hour at the height of the storm yesterday afternoon also blacked out 9,000 homes and businesses.

Western Power says electricity has been restored to all but 200 customers.

The heaviest rainfall in Perth was recorded at Bickley with 64 millimetres, Swanbourne has recorded 40 and Perth more than 27.

In the south-west, Dwellingup received 49 millimetres of rain and Bunbury more than 27.
