After a month that has so far produced less than 20% of the average May rainfall over most of southeast Queensland, the region is in for a wet week, according to weatherzone.com.au.
Cloud thickened and rain and thunderstorms developed today, with Stanthorpe receiving 8 mm - its wettest day in over a month.
Intensifying instability as very cold air moves into the upper atmosphere over Queensland, is leading to the rain and storms.
Over the next few days, the instability will persist, and a trough forming off the east coast around Friday will enhance coastal showers south of about Rockhampton. Falls of 10 to 20 mm could push inland to the ranges adjacent to the coast later in the weekend with this system.
The persistence of moist onshore winds means that showers are also likely to continue into early next week.
