Tuesday July 1, 2008 - 08:28 EST

Some parts of the New South Wales Hunter have received more than double their average rainfall in June, after a wet start to the month.

It rained on 20 days in the month, eight more days than the average.

John James from the Williamtown weather bureau says Nelson Bay had the highest June rainfall, with 307 millimetres.

"Double the long-term average of 151mm. Some good falls even up through the valley. Cessnock had 119mm, which is well in excess of their long-term average of 31," he said.

"Even up at the top of the valley at Murrurundi Gap, [it] had 111mm which compares favourably with the long-term average of 69mm."
