Wet and windy start to winter for southern WA

Wet and windy start to winter for southern WA
Several cold fronts have driven through southern WA since the season began bringing severe wind gusts and thundery showers. The showers have brought a widespread 15 to 25mm of rain across the Southwest and Southern Coast districts of WA in the last couple of days. Some places received their best falls in three months. The aptly named Windy Harbour collected 40mm, the wettest pair of days since March, while Jarrahwood has seen 27mm in 48 hours to 9am Wednesday. Driving the blustery showers along has been some very strong winds. A severe weather warning has been in force across the southwest for damaging and locally destructive wind gusts, with potential for up to 125 km/h wind gusts. Cape Leeuwin clocked a gust of 102 km/h on Tuesday evening and Busselton Jetty has seen a gust to 71 km/h Wednesday morning. Winds and showers should ease tonight as the fronts progress eastward. Some strong winds can be expected along the Leeuwin and Albany Coasts again on Thursday, but inland places won't be affected.
