Weekend snow outlook: bases holding strong

Josh Fisher, Friday August 3, 2012 - 14:16 EST

It will be another great weekend to hit the slopes with bases holding strong across most resorts and more snow in the forecast.

New South Wales resorts are maintaining snow depths of above one metre, although figures are slightly down from previous weeks. As of yesterday, Perisher was reporting a depth of 113cm, just slightly below the 117cm base of the previous week.

If you are heading to the resorts this weekend, there will be plenty of powder to carve through with temperatures remaining near freezing and light snowfalls expected.

Winds will freshen on Saturday night as a cold front approaches the nation's southeast and these winds will remain gusty for the rest of the weekend. Snow showers will increase on Sunday as the front passes, with most resorts expecting around 5-15cm of snow.
