Warm night for the east
After a day of unseasonable warmth across the east on Saturday, night time temperatures were over 10 degrees above average in parts of New South Wales and Queensland.
On Saturday, an approaching low pressure trough dragged a warm airmass over large parts of eastern Australia, making for a glorious Saturday. The warm and moist airmass lingered over New South Wales and Queensland overnight on Saturday, combining with some cloud leading to a mild evening.
In New South Wales, Walgett only dipped to 15 degrees which is nearly 11 degrees above the monthly average. Elsewhere in the state Braidwood, Cootamundra and Murrurundi all remained 10 degrees above average. In the Sydney basin, the Airport was the warmest at 15.2 degrees while Richmond fell to just 14 degrees which is 10 degrees above average. The city itself had its warmest night since May, cooling to 15.4 degrees.
Across the border in Queensland Kingaroy had their warmest August morning since 1988 with a minimum of 15.4 degrees. Further north Rockhampton had a low of just 19.4 degrees, the warmest August morning since 1991.
A mild airmass will remain over much of the east on Sunday and into Monday morning, bringing another mild night and potentially warmer night for those in Queensland.
