WA fog shifts to the south
Patchy fog shrouded southwestern WA this morning, while northwestern coastal regions which saw fog yesterday got clearer skies.
Yesterday, almost all northwestern WA regions were covered with fog as a moisture laden sea breeze combined with light winds to create a foggy morning.
Thick fog yesterday caused visibility at Broome, Port Headland and Kununurra to drop as low as 50 metres, 150 metres and 250 metres respectively. This morning almost all these regions saw clear skies as yesterdays sea breeze eased and the dew point dropped, preventing fog from forming.
This morning, at Esperance airport, visibility dropped as low as 300 metres at 3am in this fog. Perth didn't escape from the fog with as low as 3000 metres of visibility at 5am. Just north of Perth, Pearce, saw thicker fog, with visibility as low as 600 metres at 6am, just before sunrise.
The reason for this mornings fog was light winds and clear skies under a high pressure system combining with moisture from yesterdays cold front.
Fog is unlikely to form tomorrow as another strong cold front will approach from west, causing gusty, hot northerly winds ahead of it.
For the north, very warm and calm weather will linger for the remainder of this week before a strong cold front arrives on Sunday 21st. Behind this front a high pressure ridge will build bringing a slight chance of another foggy morning mid next week.
