Western Australia prepares for some incoming wild weather.

From Saturday afternoon, a strong cold front will move through southwestern parts of WA, lingering into early Sunday. This front brings the potential for damaging winds and heavy rain, with a squally thunderstorm thrown in for good measure.

A Severe Weather Warning has been issued for the southwest parts of the state, including Perth. Wind gusts up to 100km/h are possible, beginning around coastal parts between Jurien Bay and the South West Capes this afternoon, extending eastward to Hyden and Hopetoun by midnight Saturday.

Accompanying these winds is the potential for heavy rain and squally thunderstorms, which could lead to flash flooding. This system could bring 25-50mm of rain, most of which should fall during Saturday and early Sunday.

Unsettled conditions will linger into Sunday, with only a brief reprieve ahead of the next system arriving on Wednesday.
