Victoria chills through coolest weather of the year
A cold front has brought the chilliest weather of the year to parts of Victoria as maxima and minima fell several degrees below average over the past 24 hours.
The front crossed the state yesterday bringing a cold day with cloud, showers and a cool air mass.
In Melbourne, rain developed in the morning and again in the afternoon, resulting in the coolest day of the year, with the mercury struggling to just 16.8 degrees. Avalon managed to reach just 17.5 degrees, also the coolest day of the year.
In the wake of the front, skies cleared and winds eased allowing the mercury to plummet, particularly in the state's west.
Stawell endured its coldest morning since October as it dipped to just 3.1 degrees, while Ballarat chilled to just 1 degree, its coldest since December.
Looking further ahead, today will be a little warmer and generally dry as a high pressure ridge extends across the state.
However, another front will cross the state during Thursday, causing showers and cooler daytime temperatures. Skies will clear again during the evening, with Friday morning likely to be the coolest for many places since early-to-mid spring.
