Saturday November 22, 2008 - 14:19 EDT
The State Emergency Service (SES) is warning Victorians to be prepared for fierce weather over the weekend.
Gale force winds and flash flooding is predicted for parts of the state, with Gippsland likely to be the worst affected.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting rain falls of up to 150 millimetres in some areas.
Myles O'Reilly from the SES says there are simple things people can do to be ready.
"There's winds associated with the weather, there could be a possibility of power outage," he said.
"If that is the case then people should prepare beforehand and have their torches with spare batteries, hopefully a battery powered radio they can listen into the radio and have a supply of food."
Gippsland residents could be the worst affected with winds of up to 120 kilometres per hour.
The weather bureau's Phil King says conditions will start to worsen this afternoon.
"At the moment, overnight we've only seen falls of 10 to 20 millimetres through west Gippsland," he said.
"But as this system winds up we'll see the heaviest rain come later today or particularly this evening and overnight into Sunday, it looks like it'll last about 24 hours."
