Showers have been commonplace along the central and northern Queensland coast during the first month of winter, with some places seeing their wettest June on record. Cairns has so far collected 150mm for the month, its wettest June on record, beating the previous record of 144m set in 1987. Innisfail has collected 411mm so far during the month, well above the monthly average of 182mm. Notably, rain has fallen ocross 24 days in the month, well above the average of 13 days. Further south totals were not as heavy, however Mackay has so far seen one and a half times its average June rain, recording 90mm. June is typically a month where dry season conditions take hold. However, with high pressure systems further south than usual, showery onshore winds were driven over the QLD coast for large parts of the month. Showers will continue for the remainder of today and tomorrow, with potential for falls of 20-40mm along the tropical QLD coast, before drier conditions develop from Wednesday.
