Last night record heavy November rain fell over large parts of Western Australia's Gascoyne, Murchison and Pilbara Districts.
Tropical Cyclone Anika weakened into a low pressure system yesterday before moving onto Western Australia's coastline, just near Exmouth. This low pressure system occurred earlier than the traditional summer cyclone season, resulting in some high November rainfalls.
Exmouth on the central WA coast recorded 40 millimetres. This was a seven month high and their heaviest recorded November rainfall since records began in 1945.
Winning received 42 millimetres, which was their heaviest fall in nine months, and the heaviest November fall in 64 years.
Further inland Emu Creek recorded 50 millimetres in the 24 hours to 9am. This was their heaviest fall in eight months, and the heaviest November rainfall in ninety-one years of records.
Showers eased today with the heaviest falls being recorded at Karratha, where 1.8 millimetres was recorded and Paraburdoo Airport where under onemillimetre fell.
