After passing over Darwin on Saturday Tropical Cyclone Marcus made landfall over the northern Kimberley coast as a category two system. During Saturday Tropical Cyclone Marcus barreled over Darwin, bringing wind gusts of up to 124km/h and 60mm of rain. Elsewhere in the Top End, 24 hour rainfall totals exceeded 100mm, with Gunn Point picking up 124mm and Charles Point 111mm. The rain was torrential at times with 14.4mm falling in just 10 minutes over Dum In Mirrie Island. Tropical Cyclone Marcus picked up strength as it moved over the warm waters of the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf and made landfall over the far northern Kimberley coast on Sunday morning. The cyclone is bringing heavy rain, destructive wind gusts of up to 150km/h and abnormally high tides. As of Sunday morning a warning was in effect From Wyndham to Beagle Bay. Marcus is expected to continue to cross the far northern Kimberley on Sunday before moving back offshore late on Sunday or early Monday. It is expected to take a westerly track whilst intensifying and may reach category three late on Monday. At this stage the system is expected to remain offshore, but will generate large waves along parts of the Western Australia cost. The system may then take a more south easterly track from Thursday or Friday whilst transition into an extra-tropical system.
