Travel warning issued after Todd River peaks

Tuesday November 18, 2008 - 23:26 EDT

Alice Springs police say that waters in the Todd River are now subsiding, but all causeways will remain closed overnight.

The river reportedly peaked earlier this evening after a storm that felled some trees and powerlines.

Police have asked all residents to remain indoors and postpone any unnecessary travel.

"If there's not a real necessity to be out and about, people should just stay at home and wait for the river levels to come down," Superintendent Sean Parnell said.
