Thundery change in Western Australia

The best rain in at least a month has been falling in the southwest of Western Australia, according to weatherzone.com.au. Storms triggered by a trough swept in early this morning, giving falls of more than 30mm.

Witchcliffe scored 22mm to 9am WST, a three year high for May and its highest since early April. By 3pm WST, Busselton Airport had scored 37mm, so far its highest since June 2005. Perth picked up a drop too, scoring just over 5mm in the two hours to 10am WST.

More rain is expected in the next week as a series of fronts slides over the region. There is the potential for another 15-25mm next Tuesday morning followed by 5-10mm on Thursday.

These fronts will also drop temperatures significantly, which have been as much as nine above normal in one of the longest warm spells for May in years. Kalgoorlie nudged 30 degrees today, its warmest this month and a five year high for May.
