Thunderstorms still firing over central Queensland
Tom Saunders

Southeast Queensland was struck by violent thunderstorms yesterday evening which brought hail, heavy rain and power cuts to over 30 thousand homes.
The highest total by Thursday morning was 126mm at Coops Corner on the Sunshine Coast. The storms swept east across Brisbane around 7pm, dumping at least 30mm over most western and northern suburbs in only about 30 minutes. Mitchelton was the wettest suburb picking up 63mm. Unfortunately the Wivenhoe catchment received an average of only 2mm.
The storms moved into central parts of Queensland on Thursday with a trough of low pressure and again threatened to bring damaging winds, hail and flash flooding. Towns which may be affected include Dalby, Roma, Emerald, Clermont, Blackwater and Barcaldine.
The trough will weaken over the next few days, causing storms to become isolated on Friday and clear by Saturday.
