It was a stormy night for southeast Queensland, with further storms in store over the next two days. A broad line of storms brought heavy rain from Ipswich to southern Brisbane Wednesday evening. Beaudesert received 30mm in less than 20 minutes, with the rainfall gauge measuring 42mm by 9am Thursday. At Archerfield 28mm fell within an hour, totalling 45mm. Other notable totals included 73mm at Bundamba, 61mm at Eight Miles Plain and 59mm at Brassall. The night-time sky lit up with close to 18 000 strikes recorded within a 100km radius of Ipswich during last night and early this morning. Showers and storms are likely today and on Friday as a low pressure trough stalls over the region. Slow moving storms are likely fire up over western areas and move generally east. As these storms are slow moving, storms may produce isolated but heavy falls as well as the risk of damaging wind gusts.
