Thousands still wait for phone line repairs

Thursday June 28, 2012 - 12:10 EST

Telstra says up to 4,500 customers in South Australia may still be without telephone or internet services after rain and storms late last week.

The precise number of customers affected is unclear.

Telstra said it was working to clear a backlog of faults in Adelaide, the Mount Lofty Ranges, mid-north, Murraylands and south-east.

Mark Bolton from Telstra admitted the work could take another week.

"I haven't seen this high a volume of faults and the severe weather conditions affecting our network like this probably in the last three or four, five years so this is a extreme weather event, there's no question about that," he said.
