The wind in the willows...

Sam Terry
As predicted today has been one of the windiest, at least for parts of NSW and VIC, in months, with a Severe Weather Warning current for all of NSW and for eastern and northeastern VIC, due to damaging wind gusts. So far today, the highest gust recorded in NSW was this evening in Katoomba, buffeted with a 95 km/h gust, the strongest since August this year. As well as this, there have been reports of snow falling in the Blue Mountains, making it a truly icy wind. Other outstanding wind efforts include Badgery's Creek, in the Sydney Basin, whipped thoroughly by a 76 km/h gust, the likes of which hasn't been seen in 6 years or more. In Victoria, gustiness has been widespread, with many towns getting hit with winds up to 90 km/h. Melbourne itself experienced a gust of up to 85 km/h, the highest in two months. The winds come with the passage of a vigorous front over yesterday and today, and will continue tomorrow as a low deepens off the NSW South Coast, bringing heavy rain to eastern VIC as well. Winds won't ease significantly until late on Sunday, when the low moves away over the Tasman Sea.
