Tassie's taste of winter weather

Tassie's taste of winter weather
A strong front is bringing damaging winds, with rain and snow to follow. Winds gusts ahead of the front reached over 125km/h at Mount Wellington this afternoon, and 110km/h at Maria Island and Tasman Island. Hobart Airport saw gusts clock 107km/h, the strongest so far this year. As the front reaches the state this evening, rain will increase. Falls are likely to be the heaviest in the west tonight and into tomorrow, with eastern areas only seeing a few millimetres. A deep pool of cold air trailing behind this front brings the chance that some of these showers could fall as snow. This snow is most likely overnight tonight and into Thursday morning, mainly about the Western and Central Plateau, falling to as low as 500m. Temperatures throughout Thursday will struggle to reach double digits in the west. Eastern parts of the state will also have to rug up, with the day only expected to reach the mid teens at best. By the weekend temperatures will be on the rise. Monday and Tuesday are likely to be the warmest days, with another cold blast due later on Tuesday.
