Sydney's weekend wet weather worries
Sam Terry

For the second weekend in a row Sydney has picked up heavy rain and storms, causing areas of flooding, property damage and perhaps dampening Valentine's Day love.
It started on Friday night as a gusty southerly change pushed up the NSW coast and caused heavy showers and storms across the Illawarra, Sydney Basin and the Hunter. Storms were severe as the city was hit by a dump of 60mm in just an hour, easily classified as flash flooding.
Saturday saw a morning and early afternoon respite before showers started up again on Saturday night, ruining many an outdoor soiree. Heaviest hit was Parramatta and surrounds, which picked up 44mm to 9am the next day.
Sunday saw patchy showers appear here and there, not particularly heavy during the day, but certainly enough to keep children off the streets and glued to the TV. By evening the heavy falls started once more, bringing the largest totals to the Inner West.
By Monday morning the rain was almost spent. Only a few windscreens were splashed during the morning commute, and the sun emerged, helping
Sydney-siders to truly understand the meaning of the word "humidity".
Overall, most suburbs recorded a weekend rainfall total near 100mm.
