Sydney wakes to fog and haze

Josh Fisher
Sydneysiders woke to hazy skies this morning, while thick fog made for a difficult commute in some western suburbs. In Richmond, the visibility dropped to 200 metres at around 3am and remained below 500 metres during much of the morning commute. The stagnant airmass also led to gloomy conditions over eastern suburbs as a combination of light morning fog and smoke haze lingered. The smoke was due to a series of burn-offs taking place on the outskirts of the city and was being trapped in the Basin. Fog will again be a risk on Saturday morning as a high pressure system maintains light winds overnight. Fog is less likely on Sunday as a weak front clips the coast, bringing an increase in winds and a shower or two.
