Sydney's sweat stalls

With a sweltering hot spell persisting into Thursday, Sydney-siders look expectantly to the south for a much needed change. In the city, the mercury has pushed into the low thirties two days in a row, with the seabreeze saving residents from the higher temperatures seen in the western suburbs. For instance, Penrith has exceeded forty degrees for two consecutive days, with Today's 43 degrees the hottest in three years.

The southerly change has been whipping up the coast, bringing with it desperately needed cool relief. Nowra shot up to 40 degrees by 1pm Thursday, then plummeted 16 degrees but 2:30pm. Jervis bay, Bombala and Kiama have followed this trend, marking the passage of the southerly change.

As the change is expected to hit Sydney city before 4pm, it will not be spared today's peak heat, however it certainly will provide more comfortable sleeping conditions than the last few nights.

Heading into the weekend, Sydney will see the mercury slide down to the low twenties, with more hot conditions expected to move in by Monday or Tuesday.
