On Saturday morning Sydney awoke to its coldest morning of the year so far, at just seven degrees it was a good day to sleep in. Despite this, enthusiastic cyclists, runners and walkers still got out there at the crack of dawn, whilst surfers took advantage of water temperatures two and half times warmer than the air. The next few mornings look to follow the same pattern, with minimum temperatures of seven degrees forecast up until Tuesday, and not looking like getting up to ten degrees until Thursday. Days should be sunny and mostly clear, however they still look to only get up to around 16 degrees, about a degree below average. Richmond and Camden both recorded zero degrees early Saturday morning and it took until 10:30 before temperatures hit the double digits. Cold and frosty mornings will be the flavour of the week, with minimum temperatures around zero to minus one until Wednesday. A lingering high pressure system is to blame for the cold starts, as it directs frigid southwesterly airflow onto the state. Still, it could be worse, Canberra has mornings as cold as minus three to minus five degrees up until Tuesday.
