Sydney's coldest June day in 7 years

Cloud arrived in Sydney this morning just in time to make for a cold and grey Saturday.

Just a week after Sydney's wet and grey long weekend, a mass of cloud moved over the ranges from central NSW, reaching the city on Saturday morning.

The increase in atmospheric moisture made for a brilliant sunrise along eastern NSW this morning, before skies turned grey.

The dense cloud formed along a trough of low pressure and caused temperatures to stagnate in the city today, due to the absence of sunshine.

The city only reached 14 degrees, making it Sydney's coldest June day in five years and the coldest day since last winter. This comes as a stark contrast to Friday's sunny high of 21 degrees, which was the warmest day in a month.

Rain will continue in Sydney this evening as the trough moves over the coast. Although due to the air becoming dryer as it moves east of the ranges, most places will see less than 10mm of rainfall.

The trough will move away from the coast overnight, allowing Sunday to be drier and sunnier. Sydneysiders can expect tomorrow's temperature to reach a more comfortable 19 degrees, two above average for June.
