Stormy weather to mark the end of World Youth Day
18/07/2008: Sydney has turned on some of its best weather this week to greet the Pope and his flock of international pilgrims, but that looks set to change on Sunday for the last day of festivities, according to weatherzone.com.au.
A few showers and even the chance of a storm will spread across Sydney during Sunday afternoon, potentially putting a dampener on the Youth Festival at Southern Cross Precinct.
"There is quite a strong cold front that is likely to move across New South Wales during Sunday. At this stage, we are expecting it to hit Sydney during the late afternoon or early evening, and it could bring some quite rough weather for a few hours," weatherzone.com.au meteorologist Matt Pearce said.
"The weather should remain dry through Sunday morning for the final Mass at Randwick Racecourse, but clouds are likely to build by early afternoon and the wind will pick up quite a bit through the day. People attending the afternoon or evening events should definitely come prepared for wet weather."
Glorious weather is likely to greet the pilgrims who will be walking across Sydney Harbour Bridge tomorrow. Sunny skies and temperatures nudging 20 degrees will make for a very pleasant walk.
"This time of year is renowned for having plenty of clear, blue sky days and fairly chilly nights in Sydney. However, we can still get the odd strong front move through like we are expecting on Sunday, and that is when Sydney can typically experience strong winds and rainfall," Pearce said.
